In this decade the use of digital information has increased bombastically. The data servers are now presented 100 times more than before 10 years. And these Servers need a huge place and huge energy to store, process, and analyze data. So we need a comfortable and small storage device for the future. Scientists have found a new technology to store information. Before stepping into the future we should take a review of the history of electronic drives.
The first electronic storage device was IBM 305 RAMAC system which was developed in 1956. The storage capacity of the device was 5 MB. The cost of the hard drive was $50,000 and need huge power to store information. It was the first time when the disc is used to store data. Then in 1982 again IBM invented the second hard disc that could store 2.5 GB of data. In the 90s, when personal computers were more popular among people we needed small and compatible discs that can store lots of information. After the 90s storage devices like SSD, Pen drives, and Memory cards became famous and these are And this electronic storage devices used silicon chips to store data. which was faster and with more capacity. But in the internet world, we need to store millions of information daily and we need to decrease the size of servers for space.
Recently Scientist has found a new technology to store information. According to researchers a large number of information can store in DNA. Scientists are working on synthetic DNA which can decode binary code easily. Nick Goldman from Cambridge found that in small size of DNA we can store hundreds of terabytes of data. He converted the binary code into DNA code to store. Another scientist Henry Lee from Harvard Medical school believes that in 2025 20% of electricity will be used for Big data servers and a lot of land is needed to set up servers. And according to him, we may face a silicon shortage in the future. Synthetic DNA storage is a good option for tomorrow. Of course, it is in early-stage but in five to ten years we can see the small drive that can store Millions of Data.
I think this is a real great post.Really looking forward to read more. Really Great.
