Madhu’s Diary

Ravi opened the diary. On the First page, One Nice photo of
Ravi’s mother was there. She was looking beautiful with Punjabi salwar Dresses. A great smile was there on her face. Her eyes were shining like a diamond. The diary did not seem like not very old.
    Dear son,
I am telling you a story, that story for which I had not wanted to be a writer. But it’s my primary duty to tell the story, behind you. I and your father will not be alive when you will be reading the story. Only you will be there alone. But don’t mind, everyone in this story loves you. All the characters are yours. I didn’t want to tell the truth. But I can’t hold it for so long.

Two successful years of our marriage life were completed. After a long stay in Japan, finally, we were in the heart of India. Delhi was new to me. Your father was posted in Government Hospital as Gynecologist, somewhere in New Delhi. I was also doing a job in a new company. At that time, the professional world was new for India. The IT industry was started just some days. We were completely new to the city. Of course my total schooling, I had completed in old Delhi. This was not the city where I was living, the lifestyle was changed thereafter seven to eight years and I hadn’t known. the city was going to turn over some pages of my past life, something that was out of my thinking. We had bought a bungalow in Adarsh marg.

I don’t know which day that was? I was sitting on the sofa, waiting for your father. It was getting late as compared to other days. I was watching a serial on the TV. But I was not watching All-time, I was looking towards the door. Because I was alone and the place was new to me.
Suddenly the door was knocked on by someone. It was your father. The time was 10.30 Clock night. He was tired. He asked me for dinner. I started to serve food.
I said, “today was late?”
“Ya. Madhu! I don’t know people are living in this condition. People don’t have food, home, dress. Medicine is a big thing for them”. He told.
From Childhood, your father was a very bright student although he was from a lower-middle-class family. So Government had sent him foreign for College Education. He had no idea about the grassroots problem of India. But my father was richer than my father-in-law. I had no mother-in-law. But at the time of the marriage, my in-laws had also a good amount of property because he was getting a scholarship from Gov. And jobs in foreign.
Today he was looking very upset. He was having dinner but he could not take any more. He described.
“Today I was just coming from Hospital. I discovered a big noise was coming from the outdoor. I thought like a general quarrel and I was just going to start my car but suddenly I heard some painful female voice, I stopped my car and went back outdoor. A man was there about my age and his wife’s pregnancy was in the last stage. Two hospital staffs were there. The hospital guys were not ready to admit into the hospital, because there were no doctors present at that time and you know! I am a doctor but not posted as a doctor. My work is to train new doctors. The major problem was there was no electricity was there. That’s why the two hospital people were insisting the couple go to any other private hospital. As compared to the hospital‘s problem, They have a more big problem, which was that they did not have money. I am thinking both had not taken food many times. When that man saw me. He caught my legs and said “please sir! Help me. ”.”
Your father stopped talking for a moment and started describing the incident.
“He had no tears in his eyes. Maybe his tears were finished. His eyes were looked very small. He had no words. His eyes were telling everything without losing time I gave 100 rupees to a man for bringing a Generator from a tent house. I asked another man to take medicine from the hospital store. But they were expired so I brought them from my sample medicine. After a 2hours surgery, a baby boy was born. But the weight of the baby was low. When I gave the man the news he caught my hand
“Sir! You are a god.” “.
“It is good. Why are you upset? The baby and mother are out of
danger?” I said”
    Your father said
“I know Madhu! They will be fine but till they are in hospital. Outside of Hospital? How they can provide food to their children….Think! How many of this kind of family will be there in India.”
“Don’t take tension. Everything will be fine. “I told him “I hope so! I will take you to them.” He said to me.
I smiled a little. That night, I could not sleep in all Night. I was thinking about them. How they are going to feed the child. I don’t know, how many these kinds of families are there. With playing this question I slept. Without knowing that a new page has ready to add in my diary in next day and that’s why I am telling you story you. I think the next day was a holiday. I woke up at 6.30 morning. I refreshed in 30minutes. when I came your father was sitting on a chair reading the newspaper. I prepared breakfast. We had no plan for that day.
“Madhu! We will go temple and some for some marketing. After
that, we are going to meet that couple “your father said.
“Ok” I
replied.
After 9 o’clock, we were ready with an intention to meet the
the couple and a new member of the family. First, we went to a temple. Then we went to the market, to do some shopping. I brought some vegetables for home. The day was a holiday so a large number of people had come to the market. A lot of things I had to buy for the home, but I was thinking about something. I don’t know Which thought was there in my Mind. After two minutes of asking of your father, I came out from the thought.
That day was a holiday so no more people were there in the hospital. Only the outdoor Doctors were there for an emergency case. It was the first time for me to watch such wards in the hospital. Some patients were on the bed and some hadn’t. Because of that date, I had never had a hospital in my life. The scenes were socking. On a side somewhere people were cooking also. A smell was there all over the hospital. After some ward, we entered the maternity ward. The ward is full of new lives but they were in an unhealthy condition. But also some Mothers were there who were not so lucky.
We stopped at a corner of the ward a woman was sitting on a mat on the floor near to her a beautiful baby boy was sleeping. When they recognized me as the wife of their doctor and were thanking me for my father but I was speechless. My life was related to those faces in the past. I was trying to say something but I could not. Tears were coming from my eyes like a stream. My thinking power was lost. I asked your father for the back return home. Your father little surprised at my decision, but he did not tell me anything. The two faces were moving in my head. When we reached home a little fever was there in my body. So He gave me medicine and advised me to take a rest.
in the evening I got up. Your father was sitting on a chair in the living room.
“How do you feel? Madhu! Don’t worry about food, I have
already prepared” He said. With a small smile. I replied
“from morning now is good”
“Madhu! Today you were crying in the morning.”
“Yes! The past mirror shows me something I was not excepting
right away.”
“What happens?”
“I am not expecting them in this condition. I don’t know, where
was the problem? What did happen to them?”
“Who? What problem! You are talking about…………….
One minute …….
You mean that couple in the hospital. Do you know them? “Your father said.
“Yes! Reena and Rajat. Before 8 years. They were my friends. But I don’t know how they are here and in this condition.” After that, I stopped and start a story which was untold till that time.”
I started-
